FOURTH YOUTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION

The Event

The Romanian Foundation Children for Children, Children for Peace is hosting the fourth Youth General Assembly, to be held in Maramures in north-west Romania in August 2003.

The assembly is open to young people from the age of 14 - 25, and to parents, teachers and youth workers, who may act as chaperones for the younger participants.

The Foundation has formed a partnership of eight organisations to support the event, and has secured funding to make it easier for young people to attend. IAVE, the International Association for Volunteer Effort, is pleased to be one of the partners.

The Programme

The Assembly will open with a special ‘Peace Pole’ ceremony on 6 August to welcome delegates and set the theme. The work of the Assembly will be carried out over nine days in a series of interactive workshop and project sessions focused on six key issues for today’s young people, led by experienced group leaders. The programme includes a number of outings and visits in this beautiful region of Romania.

The conference leader is Ellen Brogren. The language will be English.  

The Venue

The conference will be held in a purpose-built centre close to the town of Maramures. Accommodation will be in twin rooms, with en suite shower and toilet.

The Cost

The conference fee is €150. A travel subsidy of up to 70% of air fare is available for a number of participants from European countries. Apply early!

Travel

You should plan to arrive in Bucharest in the morning of 5 August, where a coach will take you from the airport to Maramures. The coach for the return journey will leave Maramures in the evening of 15 August, arriving at Bucharest airport on the morning of 16 August.
